I just wanted to give a little bit of a shout out to Mike and Mia Kerz, and the whole Flashback Family, for giving us fans an incredible weekend. That was our first show in close to 2 years, which was just killing us not to be around our convention family and friends. But it did happen this last weekend, at the beautiful Hyatt Regency Hotel, and we had a blast.
I didn’t get a chance to take too many photos over the 3-day event mainly because we were so busy at our table! Never a bad thing. But we got to chat with plenty of fellow fans, sold a bunch of horror reference books, and got to hang out until the wee hours in the morning talking about the genre we love!
The fact that we sold a lot of books makes me very happy, not just because that’s what we’re selling, but honestly because it shows me that people continue to be interested in learning about the genre, and using these antiquated devices called “books” to be their gateway. Makes me proud and thrilled that I can help them find the right conduit.
While now it seems the rest of year might be iffy when it comes to the other conventions due to the infection rate rising, who knows if Flashback was our first and last for this year. We can only hope that more people get vaccinated to continue to help fight this pandemic so we can finally kick it’s ass and lay it to rest. Fingers crossed. We had such a great time, I am going to be very bummed if we have to wait another year to do it again.
In the meantime, make sure you mark your calendars for this year’s Dusk-to-Dawn Horrorfest at the Midway Drive-In, scheduled to take place on Sept. 18th. They will be screening 4 features, along with classic trailers, horror vendors (including US!), and just a lot of fun. So far, they have announced 2 of the 4 features, Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984) and Bloodsucking Freaks (1976). If you are a fan of exploitation cinema, then these two features alone should get you to come out. Silent Night had the whole country in an uproar when that first came out. And Bloodsucking Freaks is one of the most demented and twisted movie you’ll ever see. And seeing them on the huge screen at the Midway will make it even more memorable. Head over to their website HERE to stay tuned for more updates on the other 2 titles they’ll be announcing.
