It is funny how one’s opinions can change over the years. I’ve been going through some of my reviews from the old Krypt and bringing them to the new format. During this process, I realize I don’t have a review posted for the soundtrack for this movie, which I recently posted in my list of films that people need to see. As I was going to bring it over, I re-read it and was amazed to find out that I apparently didn’t care for it that much. The strange this is that this is one score that I’ve been listening to quite a bit lately when I’m working on some writing. Because it is more “background sounds” than actual music, it just didn’t resonate with me too well. Well, here is an updated review with some different thoughts on it. Continue reading
When I first started to compile a list of my Best of the Decade, I had to narrow the list of well over thirty titles to begin with. As I was narrowing it down to ten, I did notice quite a few that I really enjoyed but just weren’t going to make the cut. Then I also realized that some of these titles don’t seem to be coming up in conversation too often, or at all. It would be a real shame for a great movie to come out and quickly disappear into all those other titles that are constantly coming out through physical media or some streaming service. That is why I decided to make this particular list because I want to make sure that if one or two, or more, of these titles had slipped by you, now would be your chance to seek them out. If you enjoyed them as much as I did, then to pass the recommendations onto other like-minded film fans. The last thing we want is for some entertaining and sometimes original films to get lost in the flood of all these titles. So make a note of these titles, if you haven’t seen them, and give yourself a challenge to find them in 2020. And then help spread the word! Once again, these are in alphabetical order.
So let’s get at it. Continue reading
Just to get this out there right away, my Best / Worse lists always consists of films that I watched for the first time in 2017, not necessarily that they came out. Most of the films I watch are from DVD or Blu-Ray and I don’t make it to the theater too often to see them when they first come out. Or they might be an older film that I’m seeing for the first time. So no matter when it actually came out, it still is a new movie to me.
I got through 209 films this year, 77 of them were first-time viewings for me. That is a little lower than normal for us, but I’ve been spending a lot of time working on a side project that will hopefully see the light of day this year. Then I can get back to watching more movies!
So here are the top five that I watched in 2017 that made the most impact on me this year.
