Soundtrack Review: The Uninvited

The Uninvited
Released in 2009 by Lakeshore Records
15 Tracks, with a total running time of 48:44 min.
Music Composed by Christopher Young

We’ve been a fan of Young’s music since our first viewing of Clive Barker’s Hellraiser, which remains one of our favorites to this day. We had not seen this particular film before hearing this score, so we were very interested in seeing the musical journey Young was going to take us on and we were not disappointed.

Right from the opening track, with this ghostly voice giving us this haunting melody that immediately pulled me in. Then adding in some strings and a very quiet piano, it makes this very memorable. There are a lot of repeated themes and melodies here, but I’ve always liked that in a score, making it resonate a little more. Throughout the whole score, I can almost feel a ghostly presence through the music. At times, I’m almost hearing something from Hellraiser, but it stands its own ground in what it is trying to accomplish through the notes, and it works so well.

Next to Hellraiser, this has become one of my favorites of Young’s work. It is one that I can always go to when I want to be put in the mood if I’m sitting in a haunted house. And it works every time.
