2020 Year End Review: Part 1 – Happy New Year!

Boy… 2020. What a freaking year, huh? When is the last time you could describe a whole year as a dumpster fire? Honestly though, all joking aside, even with the pandemic still raging on, with all the negativity around, idiots running about making the human race an even more embarrassment to the aliens watching us on their favorite reality show (“Did you see what they did on Earth Live last night???”), believe it or not, there is still a lot to be grateful and thankful for, as well as some people out there still working hard to put forth good in the world. Sometimes you have to look a little harder, but it is there.

I know there are a lot of people that are either out of work or have been hit kind of hard by Covid, with things getting shut down left and right. I have been very fortunate to have been able to continue to work through this. Yes, sometimes more hours that I hoped to, but I’m still working. So while sometimes it’s hard to see that while you’re in thick of it, it could be worse. At least for me. For those out there in the worst of it, I can hope only that 2021 starts to turn around for you. And quickly.

We have been lucky enough not to have gotten sick! With my wife and I both having contributing factors, that can be a bit scary, but taking the right precautions, wearing our masks, and thinking about other people as well as ourselves, we’ve been able to navigate through this. So far, at least! What scares me is that I’ve gotten sick every January for the last 3 years. Not once during the rest of the year, but every January. So yeah…a little worried for this month. But again, something to be grateful for so far.

2020 marked the 22nd year since I started up Kitley’s Krypt. Not to many other websites or blogs can say that, for which I’m damn proud of. In fact, when I started this little endeavor, the word “blog” didn’t even exist! I’m not saying this to brag but to prove a point. And that is that for the last 22 years, this website has helped keep me sane. Sure, I don’t get the thousands of hits a day like these bigger sites, but I like to think I give something with a little more depth than those others, or at least not just puff journalism or click bait. I try to post things that I feel will be important to real fans of the genre. Honestly though, by being able to spend time after work, writing and chatting about the horror genre, it has kept me from going completely overboard with the stress of real life.

Sure, some might call it an escape or dodging reality, but for me, it is necessary to keep that balance. I feel sorry for people that don’t have a passion to feed when they are away from their “work life”. Maybe your work is your passion. If it is, consider yourself a very lucky person. I think if we all were able to feed our passion, the world would be a much better place. Even an artist that loves to paint, even if they are not good at it, it feeds their soul and makes them happy. That is what is important. I wish more people could understand and follow that philosophy. I think the world would be a much better place.

For me, though, the horror genre is my life. I’ve been a fan since I was a child and a serious fan since my early 20s, and I don’t see any signs of it stopping. Maybe someday I can do this for a living. We’ll see.

So over the next few days, I’ll be posting my Year End Review. It’s pretty big so I figured it would be way too much reading to put out all at once, so breaking it up will be a little easier on the eyes and brain! For everyone out there, I can’t thank you enough for continuing to follow us, participating in our weekly Mystery Photo, the Kryptic Army, and just showing your support in what I’m rambling on about! I’m thrilled to have you as part of my horror family!

Here’s to 2021 being a way better year for each and every one of us!
