Severin Goes to Blood Island

Blood Island CollectionI’ve been a huge fan of the horror films made in the Philippines, especially the Blood Island films. So I was thrilled when I first heard mention that Severin was going to be releasing these films on Blu-ray. Even more so when I saw the kind of promo stuff they are making available. Granted, the limited edition Dr. Lorca’s Head Bundle is already sold out (Also note…that’s not Dr. Lorca’s Head…just saying), which was a major bummer. But the stuff in the Blood Oath Bundle is pretty damn cool too. Got to give Severin major props for the stuff they come up with. From the Anthropophagus Plush figure, or the beach ball from The Horror of Party Beach, to even the little rubber ball from The Changeling, they are killing it when it comes to new promo items.

So what is in this box set?

Before we get to the movies, let’s cover the promo items first. Since the previous mentioned Dr. Lorca’s Head bundle is already sold out (which featured a mask of the chlorophyll monster), the only one left is the Blood Oath Bundle, where you get the following:

  • All four features in the Blood Island box set
  • Blood Island Treasure Map
  • The Beast Enamel Pin
  • Beast of Blood Swizzle Stick
  • Set of 4 Beast of Blood Coasters
  • Blood Oath Recipe Card

mad doctor of blood island 1For the movies, you get all 4 of the Blood Island films. Though there was only 3 didn’t you? Terror Is A Man came out in 1959, which is sort of a take on Island of Lost Souls, but it does take place on what is called Blood Island. Starring Francis Lederer as the mad doctor, it is actually a pretty decent film. Directed by Gerardo de Leon & Eddie Romero, it was these two that really put Pilipino Horror on the map. Here’s all the details of each of the films and what extras each has. Please note, the only way you can get the Beast of Blood film is in the box set. Doesn’t have to be one of the bundles, but at least the basic box set.
