Year of Naschy

Naschy CollectionWhen the news broke today of the Paul Naschy Collection coming from Shout Factory, I was notified by more than a few friends on social media about it. I’m guessing my fondness of Senor Naschy and his work has gotten around! With all the titles that have been released, or have been announced, or ones that I’ve heard rumors are still coming, I am just in awe that this man’s work is finally getting the treatment and recognition he’s been deserving for way too long. It’s one thing for a company like Shout Factory to release a Vincent Price collection, since we all know that Price is a horror icon (and rightly so). So to see them give the same kind of treatment and spotlight on Paul Naschy…well, it is just an amazing thing. Even after his death, I know there are plenty of us out there still waving the flag to bring attention to him and his work, and with all these Blu-ray releases does nothing but help that cause. 2017 really will be the Year of Naschy!

So let’s get the meat of this, just in case you haven’t heard the news. Shout Factory announced that they would be releasing the Paul Naschy Collection, which will feature five titles, all in their uncut versions. The films are: Vengeance of the Zombies (1972), Horror Rises from the Tomb (1972), Blue Eyes of the Broken Doll (1973), Night of the Werewolf (1980) and Human Beasts (1980). The set will be released on June 20th but you can get it two weeks earlier if you pre-order it with Shout Factory now. Plus, the price is $63.97 instead of the normal retail price of $79.97. At either price, you’re getting 5 Blu-rays for a little over $15 each.

But there is even a more important reason for pre-ordering it. It then shows Shout Factory, as well as other companies, that the work of Paul Naschy is worth taking the time, effort, and money to put out for the fans. I’ve already pre-ordered my set…and so should you. You can just click HERE to get to the Shout Factory ordering page.

Although….I do have to say, I really wish they would have had some original artwork done up for this instead of a photoshop color job. So many talented artists out there that could have done an amazing piece of work for this, like Mark Maddox, Steve Bejma, or countless other ones out there. Maybe for Volume 2?

If you want all the details of the titles, just read below. Long Live Paul Naschy!
