Music Box Celebrates the Grindhouse

Chicago area fans of cult and exploitation cinema might want to make sure they don’t have plans next weekend. Of course, I’ll be out of town at Cinevent so I won’t be able to make it, which really pisses me off. But if you’re in the Chicago area, then you need to head over the Music Box Theatre when they celebrate the Grindhouse genre!

On Friday, June 3rd, they will be screening 70 minutes of some of the best in Grindhouse trailers. Everything kung fu flicks, revenge films, Italian horror, and all sorts of exploitation genres, such as blaxploitation, sexploitation, hicksploitation, and much more.

Then on Saturday, June 4th, they have a special martial arts double feature, screening The Mystery of Chess Boxing (1979), which starts at 7pm, followed by Shaolin vs Wu Tang (1981) at 9pm.

gatesofhellThen the real highlight (at least it would be for me at least) is on Sunday. At 5pm, they will be screening Lucio Fulci’s The Gates of Hell aka City of the Living Dead (1980). Any time you get the chance to see a Fulci flick on the big screen, you need to take advantage of it.

But the second feature has not been announced yet, only telling us it is a “extremely rare 35mm print of one of the greatest exploitation films ever made.” You’ll have to show up to find out what this mystery title will be.

Any of you that do so up for them….I will be envious of you. For more information, head over to their website HERE.
